Ice Cream Pancake
I just throw these pictures of past dishes in to make you hungry :-)
The detoxer among other things. With this dish I have done my body a great service – one it will not forget for – oh, say, 48 hours or so. My body is very fickle. Always looking around for the next meal. My cat is like that. This morning when I got up, all I got were complaints until I put down the dish of dry food. Silence – as she looked at it, turned around and went out the window to see what was on offer elsewhere. She came back 20 minutes later. Nope, nothing. So I put down some fur ball nuggets with a white nugget center which she likes. She was very happy when lunch from the can came around. Back to the dish. Brussels sprouts as detox, immune function enhancer, protection against certain types of cancer, and possible cardiovascular benefits as well with very high vitamin K 273 percent and vitamin C 161 percent of daily needed value, plus other V&M. And peas with Vitamin K (51%), manganese (42%), Vitamin (22%) Vitamin B1, folate and a number of other essential vitamins and minerals. And the soy in the dogs gives a high amount of Omega-3 which is essential, plus protein. Spices included salt, pepper, parsley, sweet basil. Together with sweet and sour sauce, it made the world a slightly more upbeat place to live in.
One of the important changes in habits recently is the drinking of two cups of water when I get up and a cup of water before each cup of coffee. I found out that I was dehydrating myself for many years. It also means that I drink less coffee which can only be a good thing. Not to be indelicate here, but if it isn’t clear when you go, you are starving your body of water and making it much more difficult for your liver, kidneys, the whole digestive and cardiovascular system to function. Think about it. We are supposed to be 65-75% water. And you are trying to reduce it to 50? Sooner or later, something’s got to give. A good concise article of this.
Banana/Seed Salad. Seeds – sunflower seeds and peanuts washed in strainer before mayonnaise added. Chutney on top. And the banana skin? Won’t hurt you, but eating it sort of changes the taste and texture of the salad. May actually be good for you. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Banana Wikipedia. Google “banana skin” for one of the following: warts/insect bites/depression/lutein/cooking.
Key To Fame. My establishment (that’s my apt) should go in the Michelin Guide for this lynch pin dish served at this address. This is about as haute cuisine as you’re gong to get out of me. And that is not a promise. Sweet potatoes fried in olive oil together with walnuts and pecans (to get them crisp), and parsley. That’s it. Topping it is some of my leftover stewed-in-brown-sugar-apricots-and-apples. Worked very well together. Might even sign a contract. With a very good (but cheap) wine. That’s what it says on the bottle. Not really – for the exact quote it’s “Hebrony light sweet white wine”.
Green Beans. Yes, I know you can see that. These are fried and left slightly chewy. very chewy. Has sunflower seeds and almonds. The spices were sage, which my sister sent to me, sweet basil, and garlic powder. Very good, especially with the chutney on top. You would think I sold the stuff. If you look this dish up on a health site (http://whfoods.com/ for instance) you will see that it gives you many things you may not usually get in sufficient quantity. I just reduced my risk of heart disease, protected myself against diabetes and cardiovascular disease, and may have even reduced a possible gain in weight. And that was just the almonds which are a source of manganese, vitamin E, magnesium, tryptophan, copper, B2 and phosphorus). With the addition of the sunflower seeds, if I die tomorrow, I will be in excellent shape. (E, B1, manganese, magnesium, copper, tryptophan, selenium, phosphorus, B5 and folate, with the E and B1 particularly high on the daily value requirement). And the green beans for energy, antioxidant protection, iron, anti-inflammatory action, and reduction of free radicals. I may sound like I’m joking but I’m dead serious. No – take out the first of the last two words. Since I started this cooking blog, I have actually improved my health. I used to have DVT from sitting at the computer for too many years without getting up often enough. I still have not changed the getting up part, but the DVT signs and the medicine I took are now gone since I started the blog. Also I used to put on weight very easily and since I have been taking in what I actually need, I have no weight problem (except when I make myself two batches of cookies in two days and finish them both in the same period).
Hot Challa. This is toasted in the pan slices of Challa (bought on Thursday evening), topped with vegetarian burger minced and mixed with sweet and sour sauce. The tomatoes are the one saving portion of this meal against the yellow hot pepper flakes I put inside the burger. Milk would have been a better choice but the tomatoes saved me. Great dish. Some of the best things in life are the simplest ones. Why go to some fancy restaurant when you can burn your mouth at home in familiar surroundings.
Pomelet. Jam jar. Put in water 1/4 full, up to 3/4 flour, egg , shake. The secret here is less water then add more if needed for the right consistency. Cover on low flame. Added sweet basil, garlic powder, sweet paprika when top more or less cooked, and covered until flipped and left to settle in. Roll it in the pan. The bread roll best cut when frozen, and then fried in butter. The special part of this dish is the homemade apple butter sent to me by my niece. If you do not have a niece or she doesn’t send apple butter, you can buy it somewhere, but it won’t be as good.
